The Hampshire Canna opened by Sy Dignam has CBD flavoured products including energy drinks and a chocolate drink called Chocomel. The activist who has opened the shop ON London Road is also joined by other activists like the 33-year-old Perry Toovey who also is associated with the shop in a big way.

Apart from drinks the shop also sells soft drinks like CBD Mojito, Dutch Chocolate drink and other Hampshire Canna merchandise like Tees and hats.

For the customers too, the duo has also worked towards giving them a good experience while they are there. There is a well-designed seating ensemble for customers who can relax and have CBD infused coffee. They will also be given material on the various health benefits of these products which they can read while sipping coffee.

CBD has been garnering rave reviews in the market for its supposed medicinal values. CBD perspectives are split into two groups, one group supporting and advocating its use and the other set who still eye CBD with dubious eyes. More and more research is still underway which will go a long way in establishing CBD as one ingredient that is here to stay.

CBD is derived from the hemp plant which is, in turn, belongs to the Cannabis Sativa family. CBD has anti-inflammatory properties and unlike marijuana has less than 0.3 % THC which has mind-altering effects. Marijuana has a larger share of THC which is why users often get addicted to higher levels. Usually, such addictions are harder to reverse yet, there are many rehabs which are there to deal with it but addiction is extremely dangerous.

Sy has been an activist for more than 6 years now. He has a goal in mind and he wants to work towards it. His agenda is to generate awareness among people about the products and wants that smoking is far safer than what people perceive it to be.

His ulterior aims are now to get the substance legalised and promote it in a manner that anyone can use and It will be safe too.

CBD has created quite an uproar in the medical industry. It has helped a lot of patients suffering from severe joint pains to recover effectively and in no time. The FDA after a lot of deliberation has approved the legalization of Epidiolex which is a CBD infused drug meant to treat a certain type of Epilepsy. It is quite a common knowledge that patients suffering from epilepsy have severe seizures a day which hampers the person’s life. But with the drug, seizures have stopped for most of the patients and have the conditions surrounding the cause also have been relaxed.

It also has been associated positively with many other ailments like depression, post-traumatic stress and anxiety. Several research studies are also underway after it also boosted the treatment options about cancer and Alzheimer’s.

Seeing the benefits of reaching people across the country, Sy believes that the substance needs to be legalised in the true form and also needs to be regulated. A substance that is as rich and effectual as the CBD cannot be kept away from people. He has correctly highlighted the mindset of people towards Cannabis.

People take it to be like marijuana and believe that taking it will cause a high. In reality, it will only make the taker feel better. There is no sense of Euphoria after taking it in. But manufacturers and retailers have to be more responsible. Firstly they should know what they are selling and then guide the customer accordingly. CBD is also extracted from Marijuana hence before using any CBD product it is important to understand the THC level in it.

He and his partner Perry are blessed to about 50 years of Cannabis experience among them. They are completely aware of how cannabis works and how it can be used safely. Media too has covered cannabis in these 3-4 years. Information in hand is much more compared to a few years ago, yet people are still reluctant about it. The partners are vying to create that awareness and want to remove the stigma associated with it.

To carry this tradition of educating, the team meets once a week at Eastney Beach. They educate others about cannabis and the current issues of regulation related to it. Ever since the Hampshire Canna began in 2012, the members are increasing. There are currently 320 members in it, while the last meeting attracted350 people; it’s highest ever! In the UK CBD is 100% legal only if the THC level does not go beyond 0.2%.  It is, therefore, a largely unexplored market and now with the easing of regulation, it might slowly pick up.
